Say No to war profiteers. Say no to the Smart Grid. Build neighborhoods, use less, walk more.
Propaganda poster by Liza Cowan. Burlington, Vermont. 2011
After a long conference with representatives from Itron and Burlington Electric Department, I believe that Lockheed Martin has nothing to do with the manufacturing of the smart grid technologies that BED proposes to use. Therefore, this poster exists as a historical record, but not as truth, per se. I do love the design, so I ‘m leaving it up as that.

For more information about the dangers of the Smart Grid see The Problem With Smart Grids by B. Blake Levitt and Chellis Glendin in Counterpunch. HERE
“On closer scrutiny, Smart Grids look like another Build-It-Now-Deal-With-The-Consequences-Later fiasco. At a time when health concerns about the safety of cell phones, antennas, and Wi-Fi hotspots are mounting around the globe, Smart Grids will require literally billions of new transmitters, each pumping “electrosmog” into the environment - for which there will be no mitigation, no conscientious objection, and no escape.”

Great article in The New York Times on May 12 about the Burlington Vermont activists working against the proposed partnership between war profiteer Lockheed Martin and the city of Burlington.
Bonus: they used my posters.

Amazons On Parade, a series of paintings by Liza Cowan, Billie Potts and Susun Weed. I made these into postcards for my company, White Mare, in 1980. Two of the pictures are the post cards: the third is one of the original paintings, acrylic on huge sheets of butcher paper, hanging over my couch at Three Maple Farm, Preston Hollow NY in February 1979.
I have enough of #1 to make ten available at my online store HERE

Painting on Glass. Birds. ©Liza Cowan 2000. I made these paintings in 2000, while I was still figuring out how I wanted to use paint on windows. on one, the horizontal, I use translucent paint made for glass, and painted the frames with artist’s acrylic. In the vertical, I used opaque acrylics and painted on the back of the glass, rather than on than on the front. This was one of the first I made using this technique and I thought, at the time, that I’d invented reverse painting on glass. but of course, I hadn’t. These paintings are sold.
